Headaches and Migraines In The Autistic Child... Can This Issue Been Addressed?

Return To HOME Page

If there is one behavior that has continued to baffle me over time, it is the fact that Zachary used to put his forehead on the carpet, while on his elbows and knees, and then, he would drag his forehead along the carpet for as much as 30 or 40 feet.   To this day, I can honestly say that I don't know what caused him to do this.   This behavior used to be a lot more frequent when Zachary was first diagnosed... now, this behavior only surfaces but very rarely and when it does surface, it is also with much less intensity.

An adult autistic once mentioned that for her, the pain in her head as a child was immense... that it was like having the worse migraine possible... on a very frequent basis.   A massive headache could certainly explain Zachary's behavior as described above.   Once casein and gluten free, this behavior all but disappeared, yet, it continued to haunt me.  In looking back, however, this could certainly be a plausible explanation.   It was also after Zachary went to a casein and gluten free diet that he could now actually perceive pain in other parts of his body and the "nothing hurt" symptom finally went away (see Signs So Easily Missed Or Dismissed  - chapter 6 in my book - for more on "nothing hurt").   This behavior, I believe, may be one of those issues I may never have an answer to.
